The conference ‘Roots and paths: past, present and future for the Adriatic-Ionian Region’ was held in Split, Croatia on 16-18 October, as part of the AI-NURECC Initiative.

The conference was jointly organised by the Forum of Adriatic and Ionian Cities (FAIC), the Forum of the Adriatic and Ionian Chambers of Commerce (Forum AIC), and the Network of AI Universities (UniAdrion). Support was also provided by the Croatian Chamber of Economy, the Split County Chamber and the Municipality of Split.

The successful event, which involved almost 400 participants from local, regional and national institutions from eight Countries, was another important step to build and/or consolidate cities relations within the area.

It brought together ideas, proposals, activities and projects related to the EUSAIR implementation, in line with the key goals of the AI-NURECC Initiative.

At the same time as the conference, the FAIC also held its institutional executive board and annual assembly which took note of the various activities and projects going on in 2018 and 2019.

The Association Strategy for 2019, focusing on youth, culture and tourism, synergy with the other fora and regional stakeholders, and capacity building for EU projects, was also approved and adopted, along with several other initiatives and activities at regional and European level.

Three new member Cities were also welcomed: Shkodra (Albania), Preveza (Greece) and Sarnano (Italy).
